Lubar School Serves Our Community

April marked the Lubar School of Business Spring into Service month, with projects including a blood drive, Hunger Task Force project, Kathy’s House project, and a volunteer tax assistance night. Thank you to all of our volunteers!

Blood Drive Donor

Blood Drive with Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin. Faculty, staff and students (including 27 first-time donors!) literally rolled up their sleeves and donated whole blood units and dual red units that will impact over 102 local patients at hospitals served by Versiti. It was great to see our community team up to save lives through the precious gift of blood!

Hunger Task Force Volunteer

Stockbox Building at Hunger Task Force. Lubar volunteers helped to build 280 stockboxes for low-income seniors at Hunger Task Force in West Milwaukee. Stockboxes include nutritious items including rice, cereal, juice, beef stew, pasta, and vegetables, and are delivered monthly to seniors free of charge.

Kathy's House Volunteers

Kathy’s House Hospitality Bags. Lubar faculty and staff donated items and assembled hospitality bags for visitors at Kathy’s House, a non-profit hospital guest house that provides lodging and a supportive environment to families that are experiencing personal illness or the illness of a loved one. The bags included such items as water, juice, hand sanitizer, playing cards, gum, snacks, tissues, and a handwritten note of encouragement.

Tax Assistance Night

Volunteer Tax Assistance. The Lubar accounting area and Riverworks Development Corporation partnered to offer Lubar students help with filing their income tax forms. Thirty-two students took advantage of the free assistance. Riverworks is part of the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, and has an established relationship with the Lubar’s accounting area to identify accounting students who can volunteer with the program.
