The Lubar School of Business Alumni Chapter’s summer Business Success Series event was held on June 20 at Victory Creek Investment Services in Franklin. Guests had plenty of time for networking in between noshing on refreshments and listening to owner Tim Wachter (BBA ’86, MS ’99) talk about his company.
Wachter said he started the business about 13 years ago as a sideline, processing only 11 tax returns at his kitchen table that first year. Over the years, he grew by buying out the businesses of several other tax preparers who were retiring. He credits part of his success on having a long-standing, dedicated staff.
“All of my people have been with me for at least several years,” he said. “It helps to build on that kind of commitment. My folks have developed strong relationships with their clients.” He said last year his staff prepared more than 1,000 tax returns. In addition to tax preparation and regular payroll, the business also handles estates and trusts.
The Business Success Series showcases area businesses for the benefit of Lubar alumni, faculty, and friends of the Lubar School. The events also raise money for the Lubar School of Business Alumni Scholarship Fund. The next event will be held October 16 at Bel-Air Cantina.
