How to Drop a Class in PAWS

Schedule Planner Video Tutorial

Are you trying to add a class and receiving an error message?  There are several reasons this may be occurring:

1.) You have met the limit for repeating a course without permission. If you have already taken a course twice, you will need to appeal for permission for a third attempt.  To appeal, complete this online form and attach a letter of explanation.  Depending on the class, you may also need permission from the academic department. You can find a list of department contacts for permission on the UWM One Stop website (click on Course Repeats and Course Repeat Special Guidelines).

2.) The university deadline to add classes has passed.  View the academic calendar for add/drop deadlines. If you would like permission to enroll in a course after the University add deadline, you will need to submit an appeal for permission.  To appeal, complete this online form and attach a letter of explanation as well as permission from the course instructor.

3.) You are returning after an academic drop or returning after more than 2 semesters away.  If you are ready to enroll in classes after bring academically dropped, you must first submit a university re-entry application and meet with an advisor as part of the re-entry process. You will also need to submit a re-entry application if you are in good standing but stepped away for more than 2 terms.

4.) If none of the above options apply to you, please see the University Enrollment Policies for more information on holds, course placement, enrollment appointments, and other common enrollment concerns.  You can also contact your Academic Advisor for assistance.

2.)  There is also a deadline to fully withdrawal for the semester.  If you need to withdraw from all classes, please contact your Academic Advisor.

3.) You are enrolled in a co-requisite course. Co-requisite is similar to pre-requisite and it refers to a course that may be take concurrently or before, but not after.  For example, BUS ADM 210 is the co-requisite for BUS 370.  You can take these courses concurrently, but you would not be allowed to drop BUS 210 and keep BUS 370. Another common co-requisite combination is BUS 451 with BUS 450.
