Dissertation Basecamp
Dissertation Basecamp is a Graduate School-supported resource for all Dissertators. When you become a dissertator, you will be automatically enrolled in a Canvas course that is the Dissertation Basecamp. The Graduate School also hosts 3-day writing retreats and writing groups thorugh this site. Follow the link for more information, or go to your Canvas homepage and accept the invitation to the course.
National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD)
The National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD) is an independent professional development, training, and mentoring community dedicated to supporting academics in making successful transitions throughout their careers. They offer workshops, professional development training, and intensive mentorship programs. For information on activating your free student membership, go here.
Doctoral students may be particularly interested in the Core Curriculum, Hidden Handbook, and Dissertation Success Curriculum (among other webinars and events) which cover topics such as planning, developing writing habits, work-life balance, managing stress, and developing mentorship networks. The NCFDD periodically offers 14-Day Writing Challenges to jumpstart productivity.
Writing Center
The UWM Writing Center staff provide one-on-one face-to-face and online writing support. You can make an appointment to meet with a tutor on their website.
UWM Library Research Consultation
Arrange an in-depth, customized, one-on-one meeting with a UWM librarian to discuss possible information resources an search strategies. This website gives more information on what is involved in the consultation.
Preparing Future Faculty and Professionals (PFFP) Seminar Series
The UWM Graduate School organizes Professional Development seminars and discussions to help you get acquainted with the expectations associated with graduate studies, move successfully through degree milestones, understand the “big picture” of higher education and academic life, and plan for your career after your degree. The PFFP series offers three live events each semester and makes use of an ever-expanding video archive of PFFP offerings below, which includes more than 60 videos across seven themes: Succeeding in Graduate School, Developing as a Scholar, Conducting and Communicating Research, Community and Entrepreneurial Engagement, Job Search & Careers, Becoming a Future Faculty Member, and Preparing for Careers Outside of Academia.
