MS Management: Accounting Foundation Requirements

Understanding the Foundation Course Requirements

Students admitted to the MS in Management – Accounting program without sufficient background must complete the following additional courses:

BUS ADM 201 Introduction to Financial Accounting 4 cr. (B or better grade required)
BUS ADM 210 Business Statistics 4 cr.*
BUS ADM 301 Intermediate Accounting 4 cr. (B or better grade required)**
BUS ADM 350 Principles of Finance 3 cr.
BUS ADM 391 Business Law I 3 cr.
BUS ADM 405 Income Tax Accounting I 3 cr.
ECON 103 Principles of Microeconomics 3 cr.

*If you have already taken a statistics course, but the course is not equivalent to BUS ADM 210, you will need to complete a non-credit module focused on analytics. This module is completed in Canvas and requires a UWM email address. The module requires review of several topics in R Programming, Regression, and Data. To complete the module, you must score a 70% or higher in two 10 questions quizzes. There is no added tuition and the outcome will not impact your GPA.

**BUS ADM 301 requires a B or better in BUS ADM 201 within 3 years is required for enrollment

All courses must be equivalent to the UWM Equivalency. To determine the equivalency of a course, please visit the UWM Transfer Equivalency Database or talk with a Lubar College of Business Graduate Advisor.

Foundation courses are not required for admission to the program, however, many serve as prerequisites to courses at the Graduate Level. It is recommended to talk with the Lubar Graduate Academic Advisor to understand your options and your individual course sequence.

Foundation Courses as a Non-Degree Student

Although you can be admitted to the MS Management: Accounting program without the foundation courses complete, many students opt to take the majority of the foundation courses as a non-degree undergraduate student. For more information, please set up an appointment:

Typical Course Sequencing

The MS Management: Accounting program is designed to help students earn their CPA  a stepping stone into the field of Accounting, regardless of academic background. Due to the variety of different backgrounds, each student could have a slightly different course sequence. Below is the most common sequence of foundation coursework:

Term 1 (Spring or Fall):
BUS ADM 201
BUS ADM 350
ECON 103
BUS ADM 210

Term 2 (Spring or Fall):
BUS ADM 391
BUS ADM 301
BUS ADM 405
