{"id":151,"date":"2017-07-10T11:19:02","date_gmt":"2017-07-10T16:19:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/biometeorology\/?page_id=151"},"modified":"2021-04-07T07:06:48","modified_gmt":"2021-04-07T12:06:48","slug":"isb-animal-biometeorology-commission","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/biometeorology\/commissions-and-study-groups\/isb-animal-biometeorology-commission\/","title":{"rendered":"Animal Biometeorology Commission"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Overview<\/h3>\n<p>Animal adaptation to extreme environments concern the psychological, biochemical, nutritional, and behavioral responses of domestic, feral, wild and laboratory animals to natural changes and to extremes of the physical environment.<\/p>\n<p>The Animal Biometeorology Commission encourages research into but not limited to the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Problems of animal production associated with climate, and climate change.<\/li>\n<li>Recycling of animal wastes.<\/li>\n<li>Use of new technology (biotechnology, genetic engineering and modeling) for improving animal adaptation (survivability and productivity).<\/li>\n<li>Prevention of animal extinction by better understanding of how animals adapt to climate change.<\/li>\n<li>Climatic factors affecting animal morbidity and mortality.<\/li>\n<li>Impact of environmental conditions on the management of domestic and captive animals (e.g. housing, nutrition, rearing, etc).<\/li>\n<li>Improving predictive models which predict the impact of climate on animal health and wellbeing.<\/li>\n<li>Investigate the methods animals (fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals) use to cope with their environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Objectives<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>To maintain contact and encourage co-operation between scientists working in the broad area of animal biometeorology.<\/li>\n<li>To encourage research and provide professional support and mentoring to young scientists, especially in developing countries.<\/li>\n<li>To promote training and teaching in animal biometeorology.<\/li>\n<li>To create a database for published papers and articles which deal with animal biometeorology.<\/li>\n<li>To prepare a comprehensive reference book on Animal Biometeorology for improved training and teaching.<\/li>\n<li>To organize workshops and\/or conferences for mechanisms of animal adaptation and improving animal production in different countries.<\/li>\n<li>To foster interactions with other professional, government and non-government organizations concerned with animal biometeorology.<\/li>\n<li>To provide expert advise to professional, government and non-government organizations.<\/li>\n<li>To promote the International Society of Biometeorology.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information about the Animal Commission, please contact Sheila Nascimento (<a href=\"mailto:sheila_tn@terra.com.br\">sheila_tn[at]terra.com.br<\/a>) who serves as Commission Chair.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p class=\"card-text\">Overview Animal adaptation to extreme environments concern the psychological, biochemical, nutritional, and behavioral responses of domestic, feral, wild and laboratory animals to natural changes and to extremes of the physical [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1037,"featured_media":0,"parent":62,"menu_order":1,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":"","uwm_wg_additional_authors":[]},"class_list":["post-151","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.4 (Yoast SEO v27.4) -
