UWM Graduate Students Find Unreported Salamander at UWM Field Station

Joey Cannizzaro, graduate student in herpetology at UWM, and Morgan Schmanski, recent UWM alum, discovered a four-toed salamander while on a nature walk in the UWM Conservation and Environmental Science Field Methods class.

This class takes place in the Cedarburg Bog and allows students to apply learned concepts in a practical setting. The salamander (Hemidactyliam scutatum) will be published in the Journal of Herpetological Review. The amphibian had not been reported in Ozaukee county. Their finding will aid conservation methods in the future to accommodate for the presence of this species.

Read more about their finding here and in the UWM Report here.

Congratulations to both!
