To apply for admission to our graduate programs, please complete the online application on the Graduate School website. On the application page, use the left sidebar to select between the Atmospheric Science M.S. and Ph.D. programs:
Applying to the Graduate Program
In order to be considered for admission to the graduate program, candidates must complete the appropriate UWM Graduate School online application.
Please note that all students without an earned or in-progress M.S. are strongly encouraged to apply to the M.S. program, even if they intend to eventually complete the Ph.D. program.
Information about submission of transcripts, GPA requirements, and English proficiency can be found on the Graduate School website. The application will request that you provide a personal statement and the names and e-mail addresses of three (3) references who have agreed to provide letters of recommendation. We encourage but do not require submission of general GRE scores. Prospective students interested in visiting the Atmospheric Science Program are encouraged to contact the Atmospheric Science Program Coordinator to arrange a visit.
Admissions are made on a rolling basis, so there are no hard deadlines. Nevertheless, most offers of Research Assistantships, Teaching Assistantships, and Fellowships are made during the Spring Semester for students who will begin their studies the following Fall. In order to maximize chances of obtaining the best possible financial aid package, it is recommended that the application be completed by January 31. Later applicants with good credentials will be considered for admission and financial aid subject to availability. Although limited funding is typically available for students beginning in the spring, students who wish to be considered for spring admission should ensure that their application is completed by November 15.
- The online application requires that you upload a copy of your transcript. An unofficial transcript provided to you by your home institution is acceptable. An official transcript is required only if you receive and accept an offer of admission from our program.
- Reference letter providers will receive an e-mail from the UWM Graduate School with instructions to electronically upload their letter of recommendation.
- Mailing your transcript(s) and letters of recommendation to our program will not complete your application. We do not accept materials provided outside of the online application.
