The Peck School of the Arts is excited to highlight the incredible work that our filmmakers and artists are bringing to the Milwaukee community.&nbsp;We&#8217;ve rounded up some PSOA connections among the festival selections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"has-alpha-channel-opacity uwm-c-hr--center\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading size-h3\" id=\"h-brady-street-a-portrait-of-a-neighborhood-nbsp\"><strong>Brady Street: A Portrait of a Neighborhood<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of this year\u2019s most anticipated offerings is <em><a href=\"https:\/\/mkefilm.org\/events\/mff25\/brady-street-portrait-of-a-neighborhood\">Brady Street: A Portrait of a Neighborhood<\/a><\/em>, a feature-length documentary made by docUWM. The film chronicles the rise, fall, and rise again of one of Milwaukee\u2019s most popular neighborhoods.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Brady Street<\/em> was directed by <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/arts\/directory\/kafer-sean\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/arts\/directory\/kafer-sean\/\">Sean Kafer<\/a> (Teaching Faculty II,\u202fFilm; Program Director,\u202fdocUWM) in collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/bradystreet.org\/brady-street-history\/\">Brady Street Business Improvement District<\/a>. More than 80 students and alums worked on this project as part of PSOA\u2019s docUWM program, an endeavor that Kafer describes as \u201cenergizing.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt wasn\u2019t just about making a film; it was about building relationships with each other and with the Brady Street community,\u201d said Kafer. \u201cThat collaborative spirit is what made the storytelling so rich and meaningful.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of Kafer\u2019s standout collaborators was Emanuel Zander, who worked on the film while a student. After two years in the making, Zander is excited for the documentary to resonate with the festival audience.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI really hope the audience takes away the sense of community. Not just the community that is shown in the film, but connections that they have of their own,\u201d said Zander. \u201cI hope they seek out ways to make those connections stronger to make our communities stronger.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kafer also collaborated with Georgia Didier, a student who felt a personal connection to the film as she was living in the Brady Street neighborhood while the film was being made.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBrady Street is such a gem in the Milwaukee community,\u201d said Didier. \u201cIt&#8217;s the place where I grew as a filmmaker. For me, this film is very personal, and I&#8217;m just so happy I get to share a part of my growth with the rest of my community.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Brady Street: A Portrait of a Neighborhood<\/em> will screen at the Oriental Theatre on May 2 and at the Downer Theatre on May 4 and 7.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-l-row\">\n<div class=\"uwm-l-col\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter uwm-c-img--center default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/arts\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/637\/2025\/04\/All-That-Glitters_300x200.jpg\" alt=\"A man wearing a white button up under a dark colored shirt smiles under pink, blue, and purple lighting. \" class=\"wp-image-33475\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-l-col\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading size-h3\" id=\"h-all-that-glitters-nbsp\"><strong>All That Glitters<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Noah Meister (BFA 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/arts\/academics\/film-bfa\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/arts\/academics\/film-bfa\/\">Film<\/a>) is bringing his feature debut, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/mkefilm.org\/events\/mff25\/all-that-glitters\">All That Glitters<\/a><\/em>, to the Milwaukee Film Festival.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This coming-of-age film follows Christopher, a high schooler whose frustrating suburban life accidentally leads him to a drug deal gone wrong. Christopher must face the consequences of his dangerous actions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>All That Glitters<\/em> screens at the Downer Theatre on April 29 and 30 and the Oriental Theatre on May 1.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-l-row\">\n<div class=\"uwm-l-col\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter uwm-c-img--center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/arts\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/637\/2025\/04\/Fresh-Values_300x200.jpg\" alt=\"A man wearing a green long-sleeved shirt and holding a beige tote bag with a blue face on it looks to the camera while shopping in a grocery store. A blonde woman looks at the freezer section behind him. \" class=\"wp-image-33476\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-l-col\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading size-h3\" id=\"h-fresh-values-nbsp\"><strong>Fresh Values<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/mkefilm.org\/events\/mff25\/fresh-values\">Fresh Values<\/a><\/em> is a short film co-directed by Drew Durepos (MFA 2018, <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/arts\/academics\/cinematic-arts-mfa\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/arts\/academics\/cinematic-arts-mfa\/\">Film<\/a>) and <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/arts\/directory\/brooks-isaac\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/arts\/directory\/brooks-isaac\/\">Isaac Brooks<\/a> (Lecturer &amp; Technical Assistant,\u202fFilm).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The film, set in the near future, follows an urban food co-op that adopts AR technology in an effort to save their struggling store. Directed by <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/arts\/directory\/balcom-ben\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/arts\/directory\/balcom-ben\/\">Ben Balcom<\/a> (Assistant Professor,\u202fFilm), this short film was shot on the former site of Ceresco, a nineteenth-century agrarian commune in Ripon, Wisconsin.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The Phalanx <\/em>screens during The Milwaukee Show II.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"has-alpha-channel-opacity \" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading size-h3\" id=\"h-black-lens-series\">Black Lens Series<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The popular Black Lens Series presents genre-varying short films that reflect the relationship between Blackness, tension, and conflict.
