SUMMARY:The Fine Arts Quartet 80th Anniversary Series – Complete Mozart String Quintets & Beethoven Early Quartets
DESCRIPTION:Date & TimeThursday\, May 28\, 2026 (7:30–9 p.m.)Pre-talk (6:30 p.m.) \n\n\n\n\n\nLocationMusic Building\, Recital Hall \n\n\n\n\n\nThe quartet will perform an ambitious FREE series in May of twelve masterworks over six concerts\, including on May 28: Beethoven String Quartet No. 3 in D Major — The gentlest and most lyrical of the six quartets transforms completely in its finale\, a blazing Presto that hijacks the entire work and then\, at the last possible moment\, dissolves into a teasing whisper rather than the expected triumphant close. AND Mozart String Quintet in C Minor\, K. 406 (1787) — The odd one out: a transcription of a wind serenade\, startlingly dark for the genre. The highlight is a minuet built on a mirror canon that Erik Smith described as “two swans reflected in still water.” \n\n\n\nProgramGuest Violist\, Razvan Popovici Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) – String Quartet in D Major\, Op. 18\, No. 3Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) – String Quintet in C Minor\, KV 406 \n\n\n\nCelebrating 80 Years – Full Festival Lineup\n\n\n\nPre-talks begin one hour prior to each program (except May 19) \n\n\n\nSunday\, May 17 at 3:00 PM – Guest Violist\, Hartmut RohdeUWM Zelazo Center for the Performing Arts\, 2419 E. AND Mozart String Quintet in D Major\, K. 593 (1790) — The most intellectually rigorous of the six\, leaner and more concentrated than its predecessors.
