The ensemble is open to all UWM undergraduate and graduate music majors\, as well as non-music major students.  \nThe UWM Afro-Caribbean Jazz Orchestra features a Latin percussion section\, horns\, and vocalists. It performs music by composers such as Tito Puente\, Ray Barretto\, Sonoro Poncena\, Evan Linns\, and more. The ensemble was formed in the Fall of 2021 to focus on Afro–Caribbean jazz-influenced music.  \nThe UWM Youth Jazz Ensemble (UJAY) is a big band that prepares both classic and modern big band charts in weekly rehearsals during the academic year.  \n \n\nThe bar is open! Experience Larson’s groundbreaking musical that reshaped the landscape of American music theater. Set in New York’s East Village during the 1990s arts and activist movement\, RENT follows a community of young artists navigating love\, loss\, creativity\, and the realities of illness and economic hardship. Gordon and New York Theatre Workshop. RENT is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. \n\nAbout UWM Voice Area Opera Theatre’s production of RENT and La Bohème Scenes\nLarson built the show on the framework of Puccini’s La Bohème\, reimagining the opera’s themes of love\, friendship\, and survival for a new generation. Puccini’s work premiered in 1896\, and Larson’s RENT made its debut exactly one hundred years later in 1996\, a centennial link that highlights how enduring these stories truly are. While La Bohème centers on bohemian artists in 1890s Paris\, its emotional core remains strikingly similar\, and Larson honored that lineage while giving it a contemporary pulse. \nTo explore that connection\, we will present selected scenes from La Bohème prior to the full production of RENT\, offering audiences a clear window into the operatic DNA that inspired Larson’s vision. The ensemble is open to all UWM undergraduate and graduate music majors\, as well as non-music major students.  \nThe UWM Afro-Caribbean Jazz Orchestra features a Latin percussion section\, horns\, and vocalists. It performs music by composers such as Tito Puente\, Ray Barretto\, Sonoro Poncena\, Evan Linns\, and more. The ensemble was formed in the Fall of 2021 to focus on Afro–Caribbean jazz-influenced music.  \nThe UWM Youth Jazz Ensemble (UJAY) is a big band that prepares both classic and modern big band charts in weekly rehearsals during the academic year.  \n \n\nThe bar is open! Pamela Z performs her solo works for voice and an array of electronics\, and contributes another World Premiere to the program\, Raise\, a stirring tribute to the people who raised us\, written for ‘cellist Nick Photinos (founding member of 8th Blackbird) and three additional cellists\, plus voice samples and multi-media. Is the plural of cello “cellos” or “celli”? We say Cello Cello! \nCello Cello is sponsored by Jan Serr & John Shannon and the Warehouse Art Museum.
