Artist-faculty from UW-Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts lead rehearsals and performances. They work closely with other members of the university’s vibrant performing arts community to help student musicians further their skills by learning and performing in the university setting. Band directors and private teachers throughout southeastern Wisconsin provide additional instructional support. DESCRIPTION:Date & TimeFriday\, May 7\, 2027 (7:30–9:30 p.m.) \n\n\nLocationZelazo Center for the Performing Arts\, Bader Hall \n\n\nJoin the UWM Symphony Orchestra for its season finale on May 7 in Bader Concert Hall. \nUWM’s Symphony Orchestra is comprised of graduate and undergraduate music majors\, as well as other students. The ensemble presents seven to eight concerts each year and regularly collaborates with UWM Choirs and Opera Theatre.  \nThe orchestra has performed at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall\, the Chicago Symphony Center\, and the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts. It was selected as one of two orchestras to perform at the College Orchestra Directors Association National Conference in Los Angeles and has appeared at the Wisconsin Music Educators Association State Conference. The Ensemble focuses on collaboration and creative vision while imagining a unique take on songs presented in concerts. This ensemble is primarily comprised of music majors but is also open to music minors and non-majors. \n \n \n\nThe bar is open! The event was established in response to student requests and precedes the large UWM Commencement. We encourage you to attend both ceremonies. \nThe convocation ceremony begins with a procession of graduating students into the Bader Concert Hall. Students are seated on stage with the Dean and Department Chairs. There will be an address with opening remarks and all graduates being recognized. Students will be called up by department\, with each department introduced by a selection of work representing their discipline. When your department is standing\, you will be called by name to walk across the stage and receive your stole (a piece of academic regalia\, much like a long scarf\, that you can wear with your cap and gown to the campus-wide Commencement ceremony). After the closing remarks and recessional\, everyone crosses the lobby to Zelazo 280 for a dessert reception. \n\n\nIs the event in-person or virtual?\n\n\nPSOA Convocation is an in-person event\, which will also be live-streamed for those who cannot attend in person. \n\n\nWho should participate?\n\n\nAll Peck School of the Arts students who have graduated or will be graduating by any of the dates listed above along with friends and family of graduating students are welcome to attend. \n\n\nDoes it cost anything?\n\n\nThe event is free. Tickets are not required\, but we do appreciate that you RSVP so we can best plan for your enjoyment. \n\n\nCan I invite my family and friends?\n\n\nDefinitely! You will receive an email invitation to the Peck School of the Arts Graduation Convocation in early April. Feel free to pass it along to friends to attend in-person or online. \n\n\nHow many guests may I bring?\n\n\nYou may bring as many guests as you like. Please RSVP with the total number of in-person attendees so we can plan accordingly. \n\n\nWhat should I wear?\n\n\nThere is no dress code for this event.
