His approach to both art and teaching is centered on collaborative discourse. He is well known for taking his mobile screen-printing cart directly out to the community in Chicago where he disseminates prints and risograph to the people. Estrada is an Asst. DESCRIPTION:Date & TimeFriday\, February 5\, 2027 (12–9 p.m.)Saturday\, February 6\, 2027 (9 a.m.–8 p.m.) \n\n\nAgesHigh School Students \n\n\nLocationZelazo Center for the Performing Arts\, Bader Hall \n\n\nContactvocal-arts-festival@uwm.edu \n\n\nThe Vocal Arts Festival provides an opportunity for skilled high school singers to interact with\, perform for\, and join their voices with peers from around the region. Participants have the chance to learn and grow as both soloists and choral artists. \nOverview\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRehearse and perform with the Vocal Arts Festival Honor Choir\, including a final performance in UWM’s Zelazo Center for the Performing Arts.\nWork on a prepared solo with UWM voice faculty and guest artists in a masterclass or mini-lesson (accompanist provided).\nAttend classes and interest sessions on topics related to vocal performance including musical theatre masterclasses.\nAttend performances of choral music and classical\, musical theatre\, and commercial music solos by UWM students.\n\n\n\nStudent Applications\nAny high school singer may apply\, and teachers may nominate as many students as they wish by providing students with a link to the student application form. Once a student fills out the application\, including nominating teacher’s email\, the teacher will receive a link to verify student information and complete a brief recommendation form. Applications are due by November 3\, and students will be notified of acceptance by November 25. \nThe festival is limited to 120 students\, so only the most qualified nominees will be selected for participation. Teachers are encouraged to nominate accomplished singers who are strong musicians and will have a prepared classical solo to perform during the festival.  \n\nStudent Application Form\n\nCost & Repertoire\n$75 per accepted student. Cost includes all rehearsals\, vocal sessions\, voice masterclasses and lessons\, performances\, accompanists\, parking\, music (on loan)\, and three meals. Scholarships are available to students in need. Lodging is not included. \nThe honor choir will perform four selections. Three will be sent to accepted students in advance. Singers are asked to prepare their voice part on these pieces before arriving. He was the head of the Fiber Department at Cranbrook Academy of Art from 1970 to 1997 and served as the director from 1997 to 2007. His work has gained international recognition and has been supported by the National Endowment for the Arts\, the Japan-American Friendship Fellowship\, the Smithsonian American Art Museum\, the James Renwick Alliance\, and the State of Michigan. We’re also thrilled to welcome select high school band students as they sit in with the Wind Ensemble for a side-by-side performance experience with UW–Milwaukee graduate and undergraduate music students. \nThe UWM Wind Ensemble is the premier concert band in the Peck School of the Arts and has been recognized nationally and internationally through numerous invitations to perform at major music conferences. Emphasizing the single performer concept\, the Wind Ensemble uses only players needed for a given piece\, thus providing the greatest exposure for the exceptional musician.  \n \nThe Symphony Band ranks as one of the finest of its kind\, having collaborated with several distinguished composers and performers. Her art practice engages with GIFs\, photography\, and installation to investigate the long-term impact of assimilation and cultural bereavement through references of ancestral Chinese traditions and artifacts. Her work troubles the history of public spectacle and display of Asian American women\, using performance and lighting studio to challenge societal expectations of gender roles and norms. She has been included in the 2023 Silver List\, was a Critical Mass Finalist and was awarded the 40th Center Annual Beth Block Honorarium by Houston Center for Photography. \nThroughout the fall and spring semesters\, the Artists Now! Guest Lecture Series welcomes a diverse group of nationally and internationally recognized artists working across traditional\, hybrid and emergent disciplines. DESCRIPTION:Date & TimeFriday\, February 26\, 2027 (7:30–9:30 p.m.) \n\n\nLocationZelazo Center for the Performing Arts\, Bader Hall \n\n\nThe UWM Symphony Orchestra concert\, conducted by Dr. Jun Kim\, will feature the winners of the 2026-27 UWM Concerto Competition.  \nUWM’s Symphony Orchestra is comprised of graduate and undergraduate music majors\, as well as other students. The ensemble presents seven to eight concerts each year and regularly collaborates with UWM Choirs and Opera Theatre.  \nThe orchestra has performed at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall\, the Chicago Symphony Center\, and the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts. It was selected as one of two orchestras to perform at the College Orchestra Directors Association National Conference in Los Angeles and has appeared at the Wisconsin Music Educators Association State Conference. DESCRIPTION:Date & TimeSunday\, February 28\, 2027 (4–5:30 p.m.) \n\n\nLocationZelazo Center for the Performing Arts\, Bader Hall and Virtual \n\n\nThis concert by the UW-Milwaukee Youth Wind and Percussion Ensembles program will feature the UWAY “All-Stars” musicians and other special guests! \nUWAY musicians are enrolled in grades eight through twelve and are actively involved in their school band/music program. Artist-faculty from UW-Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts lead rehearsals and performances. They work closely with other members of the university’s vibrant performing arts community to help student musicians further their skills by learning and performing in the university setting. Band directors and private teachers throughout southeastern Wisconsin provide additional instructional support.
