SUMMARY:Experimental Tuesdays: Everything Everywhere Again Alive
DESCRIPTION:Dates\nLocation\n\n\n\n\nOctober 8\, 2024 (7–9 p.m.)\nUWM Union Cinema\n\n\n\n\nEverything Everywhere Again Alive is a landmark work of Canadian underground cinema\, a film diary with mystic and symbolic overtones. In the early 1970s\, Toronto filmmaker Keith Lock moved to Buck Lake\, where members of the Toronto art scene were undertaking an experiment in communal living.  \nLock filmed the achievements and daily rituals of his fellow communards\, his camera bearing witness as a community assembled and dispersed. Direct action is a tactical strategy of protest that seeks to achieve an end directly and by the most effective means.  \nDIRECT ACTION is a contemporary portrait of one of the most high-profile militant activist communities in France: a 150-person strong rural collective that successfully resisted an international airport expansion project in 2018\, created an autonomous zone between 2012 and 2018\, survived multiple violent eviction attempts by the French state and spawned a new ecological movement in 2021.  \nUsing a collaborative and immersive observational approach\, the film documents the everyday lives of a diverse ecosystem of activists\, squatters\, anarchists\, farmers and those labelled by the government as “eco-terrorists”. DESCRIPTION:Date & Time\nLocation\n\n\n\n\nOctober 29\, 2024 (7–9 p.m.)\nUWM Union Cinema\n\n\n\n\nWith artist Lisa Truttmann live in person for a Q&A after the screening! Lisa Truttmann is an artist and filmmaker based in Vienna. In her artistic practice\, she combines documentary\, essayistic\, and poetic methods to investigate the sociologies and ecologies of landscapes and architectures. She is interested in relationships between human and non-human agents as well as in their spaces of interaction.  \nTruttmann understands her subjective view as an approximation and considers her artistic process as an attempt to playfully comprehend complex systems. Associatively she intertwines collected material in image\, sound and text as well as objects in installations and rhythmic montages. SUMMARY:Artists Now! Guest Lecture Series: Nina Ghanbarzadeh
DESCRIPTION:Dates\nLocation\n\n\n\n\nOctober 30\, 2024 (7:30–9 p.m.)\nVirtual\n\n\n\n\nNina Ghanbarzadeh (Afkhamian) is a visual artist whose work is informed by the geometric and biomorphic patterns\, colors\, and textures of her Persian cultural traditions. Ghanbarzadeh emigrated from Tehran\, Iran in 2001. She earned her BFA in painting\, drawing and graphic design from the UW-Milwaukee in 2013 and completed a two-year Artist in Residence Program with Redline Milwaukee in 2015. Ghanbarzadeh is a recipient of the 2024 Mary L. Nohl Fund Fellowships for Individual Artists. \nThroughout the fall and spring semesters\, the Artists Now!
