The event was established in response to student requests and precedes the large UWM Commencement. We encourage you to attend both ceremonies. \n\n\n\nThe convocation ceremony begins with a procession of graduating students into the Bader Concert Hall. Students are seated on stage with the Dean and Department Chairs. There will be an address with opening remarks and all graduates being recognized. Students will be called up by department\, with each department introduced by a selection of work representing their discipline. When your department is standing\, you will be called by name to walk across the stage and receive your stole (a piece of academic regalia\, much like a long scarf\, that you can wear with your cap and gown to the campus-wide Commencement ceremony). After the closing remarks and recessional\, everyone crosses the lobby to Zelazo 280 for a dessert reception. \n\n\n\n\nIs the event in-person or virtual?\nPSOA Convocation is an in-person event\, which will also be live-streamed for those who cannot attend in person. \n\n\n\n\nWho should participate?\nAll Peck School of the Arts students who have graduated or will be graduating by any of the dates listed above along with friends and family of graduating students are welcome to attend. \n\n\n\n\nDoes it cost anything?\nThe event is free. Eckert is an emerging environmental artist who studies the impacts of place-based artworks on community engagement and land stewardship. Lehtinen’s artistic practice critiques AI technologies by contrasting automatic machine-made processes with tactile\, hands-on practices like print and papermaking. \n\n\n\nEckert uses drawing\, paper arts\, painting\, and various printmaking processes\, to create dynamic art pieces that discuss issues facing the land\, humans\, and the greater than human beings that depend on it. \n\n\n\nLehtinen explores how AI is known to distort the human hand\, literally in image generation\, and metaphorically when considering what the human hand represents – a symbol of labor\, creation\, and agency that is being severed from its original value. \n\n\n\nThroughout the fall and spring semesters\, the Artists Now! In 2005\, he graduated from Bellas Artes College in Oaxaca with a focus on painting and printmaking. Many demonstrations and activities let you participate.\n\n\n\nAbout Kenilworth Square East\n\n\nLocated in the heart of Milwaukee’s East Side neighborhood\, UWM’s six-floor\, 500\,000 square foot Kenilworth Square East building serves as the creative research facility for the Peck School of the Arts. Originally built in 1915 by the Ford Motor Company\, the building once housed an automobile assembly plant for the Model T. The building was purchased by the federal government in the 1940s before being acquired by UWM to house the university motor pool\, mailroom\, and print shop\, among other auxiliary uses. A major renovation in 2006 transformed the building for use by the Peck School of the Arts\, including student and faculty studios\, performance and production spaces\, public galleries\, a screening room and various instructional facilities. The exhibition aims to transcend borders\, cultures\, concepts\, media\, and disciplines\, offering a captivating fusion of contemporary visual communication designs and emerging trends. An expert panel of judges will evaluate the selected artworks for the international exhibition and competition\, which will then be displayed in institutions worldwide in Spring of 2024.
