Sensoria: Experiments in Sound and Performance presents Mivos String Quartet
The Mivos Quartet, “one of America’s most daring and ferocious new-music ensembles” (The Chicago Reader), is devoted to performing works of contemporary composers and presenting new music to diverse audiences. Since the quartet’s beginnings in 2008 they have performed and closely collaborated with an ever-expanding group of international composers representing multiple aesthetics of contemporary classical composition. Mivos is invested in commissioning and premiering new music for string quartet, striving to work closely with composers over extended periods of time, including the world renowned George Lewis, who you will be hearing on this evenings program. Beyond expanding the string quartet repertoire, Mivos is also committed to working with guest artists, exploring multi-media projects involving live video and electronics, and performing improvised music. This evenings performance will feature acoustic and electro-acoustic works by Matthew Ricketts, George Lewis, Martin Stauning, and Sofia Gubaidulina.
Sensoria: Experiments in Sound and Performance, led by founder and Artistic Director Amanda Schoofs, presents transdisciplinary and experimental practices in new music and multimedia performance. This series of programs intends to further dialogue, collaboration, and healthy creative conflict while promoting an expansive understanding of contemporary music. Artists are chosen from a wide pool of critically acclaimed international, national, and local artists that represent both academic and private enterprises. Sensoria has recently featured: Maja Ratkje, Jon Mueller, Peter J. Woods, Ann Yi, Heather Warren-Crow, Jessica Pavone, Nick Zoulek, and Wild Space Dance Company, among others. The series is composed of several curated events throughout the academic year at University of Wisconsin Milwaukee’s, Peck School of the Arts.
