MKE Unplugged: Gareth ‘Welsh Tornado’ Pearson
November 14 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
MKE Unplugged is a free music series highlighting acoustic performers from around the corner and around the world. All concerts take place in the Jan Serr Studio.
Drawing his playing style initially from influences such as Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Jerry Reed and Tommy Emmanuel, he has developed a style that is both inspiring and entertaining. Within a year of taking up the guitar, Gareth was opening for Tommy Emmanuel on his 2005 UK tour.
Fast forward to Gareth’s 2010 debut album, Urban Echoes Vol 1, selected by Acoustic Guitar editors and frequent contributors as one of the “Essential Acoustic Albums of 2010.” With appearances at the 2009 Montreal Guitar Festival, worldwide tours and guitar workshops, Gareth’s reputation as a performer and teacher is constantly growing.
Accolades from fans and friends alike include:
- “Gareth is fast becoming one of the world’s most renowned instrumental guitarists,” says Adam Walton (BBC Radio Wales).
- “I really respect Gareth’s abilities,” says Tommy Emmanuel. “He’s a great young man and a great ambassador for the acoustic guitar.”
- “My friend Gareth Pearson is a huge talent and in his genre, one of the best young players around,” says Jan Akkerman. “I mean there’s many roads that lead to Rome, but this one is definitely a great one. I can see a great future for him.”
Michael McKinnon, a 2019 graduate of the Peck School’s BFA program in fingerstyle guitar, opens the show.
Jan Serr Studio is an all-ages music venue. A cash bar is open during the show, thanks to the studio’s exclusive catering partner, Saz’s.
Free and open to the public!
