Milwaukee Saxophone Ensemble Pre-NASA Send Off Concert
The Milwaukee Saxophone Ensemble will be traveling to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to present a concert of brand-new pieces. Join us in our send-off concert at home!

This will be our ensemble’s first appearance at a national conference. We will present three exciting works that showcase the depth and diversity of repertoire for this medium. The program will include a world-premiere by UWM faculty Dr. Phillip Sink, coupled by a brand-new arrangement of Valerie Coleman’s Umoja for saxophone ensemble, and Karalyn Schubring’s Sunburst. One of our newest faculty members, Dr. Sink, has composed a brand-new work for the ensemble that represents “…another day ahead of living and working through a computer screen. Another day of human interaction relegated to grainy Zoom meetings.” This is a feeling that is entirely relatable to humans working, performing, and teaching through a global pandemic. Valerie Coleman’s Umoja will be represented in a new arrangement done by an alum of the saxophone studio at UWM, Luke Daniels. The final work on the program is a preexisting piece for saxophone ensemble. Karalyn Schubring’s Sunburst represents “… the raw energy and power of the saxophone ensemble through sound.”

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Saxophone Ensemble is a chamber ensemble founded on sharing music and expanding the scope of saxophone through education, performance, and outreach. The group consists of undergraduate and graduate music majors, minors, and non-majors. Founded in 2018, this ensemble combines high-level musicianship with unique arrangements to create a fun and enriching concert experience.
