UWM Jazz Ensemble
The Jazz Ensemble is comprised of 20 undergraduate and graduate students focused on the study and performance of big band jazz and related styles of music arranged for this instrumentation. We emphasize programming music that developed during the swing era to the mid- and late-20th century from composers and band leaders such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Woody Herman, Gil Evans, and Charles Mingus; to Buddy Rich, Quincy Jones, Thad Jones, Toshiko Akiyoshi; and today’s master composer and arranger, Maria Schneider. In addition, the Jazz Ensemble serves as a vehicle to showcase the arrangements and original compositions of students. Arrangements from current band members Luke Daniels and Eddy Magallanes will be featured this semester.
