Experimental Tuesdays at the Union Cinema: Two films by Sasha Litvintseva & Beny Wagner

October 18 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm CDT

Two films by Sasha Litvintseva & Beny Wagner

The two collaborative films by Beny Wagner & Sasha Litvintseva, A Demonstration (2020) and Constant(2022) explore the colonial tendencies of modern science and taxonomy. The former explores and reinterprets a way of seeing the natural world through an examination of the definitions of monstrosity deployed by Early Modern European naturalists, while the latter explores the social and political histories of measurement. Through this work, Beny & Sasha ask us to consider wasy the human body is entangled in knowledge forms that are instrumentalized by institutions of power.

Experimental Tuesdays is a weekly screening of artist-made film/video work from around the world, programmed by the Department of Film, Video, Animation and New Genres, which celebrates the creative possibilities of cinema as an art form. Variously referred to as “experimental,” “underground,” or “avant-garde,” the filmmakers presented in this series work in a truly independent fashion and their work pushes beyond the boundaries of mainstream convention. XT regularly features visiting artists, curated programs of contemporary short films, and 16mm prints from the UWM Cinema Arts Archive. Please check the Union Cinema website for specific details.
