Experimental Tuesdays at the Union Cinema: Films by Suneil Sanzgiri

October 4 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm CDT

Films by Suneil Sanzgiri

Artist in person! Suneil Sanzgiri’s films explore the richness and density of questions surrounding identity, memory, diaspora, and decolonization in South Asia. Blending 16mm film, desktop aesthetics, 3D renderings, and direct animation, Sanzgiri’s films utilize an aesthetics of distance and proximity to gesture to tensions, possibilities, and replications of what we find when we search for ourselves in the remnants of colonial histories.

A Q&A will follow the screening.

Experimental Tuesdays is a weekly screening of artist-made film/video work from around the world, programmed by the Department of Film, Video, Animation and New Genres, which celebrates the creative possibilities of cinema as an art form. Variously referred to as “experimental,” “underground,” or “avant-garde,” the filmmakers presented in this series work in a truly independent fashion and their work pushes beyond the boundaries of mainstream convention. XT regularly features visiting artists, curated programs of contemporary short films, and 16mm prints from the UWM Cinema Arts Archive. Please check the Union Cinema website for specific details.
