Biography

Kim Johnson, a U.P. Michigan native, earned her B.F.A. in Dance with High Honors from UWM in 2000. Upon graduation she joined faculty at the Milwaukee Ballet School. Kim enjoyed 10 years at MBS while serving as faculty (Pre-Ballet through Academy II), Branch Manager, Children’s Division Coordinator, Milwaukee Ballet II modern technique/composition/Pilates instructor, and writing curriculum for the school’s creative movement and modern technique classes. Kim created two pieces for MBII.

Kim has been a dancer and choreographer with Danceworks Performance Company since 2000. She served as Associate Artistic Director 2008-2012 before taking on the role of Danceworks’ Artistic Manger in the spring of 2012. Since 2011, she has overseen the expansion of their dance fitness classes, curriculum, DanceLAB, and Intensive Scholarship students. She strives to be an advocate for dance in the community and create opportunities for dance artists to continue to grow and showcase work. Kim is also a part of Danceworks’ faculty.

Since 2005, Kim has been a dance lecturer for UWM. She teaches Modern Technique for non-majors and Body Sense.
