Biography

Beth Giacobassi, bassoon/contrabassoon, has been a member of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra since 1982. In the fall of 2001, she became adjunct bassoon professor at UW-Milwaukee. From 2001-2005 she was acting Assistant Principal of the Milwaukee Symphony. 2001-2014 she was the Principal Bassoon of the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra and 1994-2016 she was the bassoonist at the Washington Island Chamber Music Festival. Other music festivals include: Colorado Music Festival, Bedford Springs Music Festival, Ohio Light Opera Company and Berea Summer Theatre. She has been a winner of the University of Michigan and Green Bay Young Artists Concerto Competitions and has soloed with the Milwaukee Symphony, UW-Parkside Wind Ensemble, and UW-Milwaukee Wind Ensemble. Her training includes study with Hugh Cooper at the University of Michigan where she received a Bachelor of Music degree, and George Goslee of the Cleveland Orchestra. In addition to her teaching responsibilities at UW-Milwaukee Beth coaches students in the Milwaukee Youth Symphony and teaches privately.
