About

  • UWM Contemporary Performance & Choreography Springdances 2016

Perform

Four concerts are presented at UWM each year: Winterdances and Springdances, which showcase students performing the the work of faculty and guest artists at the university’s flagship Mainstage Theatre, and New Dancemakers and Dancemakers, which feature choreography by undergraduate and graduate students, respectively, in creative spaces. Recent guest artists have included Susan Marshall, Ronald K. Brown, Laura Dean, and Daniel Gwirtzman. Professional Milwaukee dance companies, including Danceworks, the Milwaukee Ballet, and Ko-Thi also invite our undergraduate students to perform new works.

Artist Faculty

Our students work with the city’s leading dancers. In fact, the five leading professional dance companies in the Greater Milwaukee area are directed by current UWM Dance faculty and teaching staff! Special workshops and residencies are also scheduled throughout the academic year to provide students with opportunities to train with well-known guest artists and emerging choreographers. Included in these residencies are performances, technique and repertory classes.

During this age of reality television and its aggressive pursuit of chaos, it doesn’t seem a coincidence that the choreographer Juliana F. May has created “Adult Documentary,” a work constructed of real and fictional stories by its performers.
