On Thursday, August 18, Religion and Neo-medievalism in Rouault’s Miserere opened at the Haggerty Museum of Art at Marquette University. On view in the exhibition is one of the UWM Art Collection’s highly regarded icons, The Holy Mandylion (The Sudarium of St. Veronica) from 1630. The inclusion of the icon demonstrates Georges Rouault’s (French, 1871–1958) penchant for devotional imagery as inspiration for his modern prints and paintings.
The exhibition is curated by Abby Armstrong, a UWM Art History graduate student and an intern at the Haggerty Museum of Art.
