The exhibition\, curated by Lindsey Krug and Adrienne Economos-Miller\, brings together three artists—Jonas Becker\, Melissa Dorn\, and Pablo Lazala Ruiz—who are interpreting and revealing the content of these spaces hidden by convention and habit. \n\n\n\nThere will be an opening event with talks from the participating artists at 5:30 p.m. on September 10\, 2026 in the gallery.

DESCRIPTION:Date & TimeTuesday\, October 13\, 2026 (12:30-5:30 p.m.) \n\n\n\n\n\nLocationArchitecture & Urban Planning Building\, Room 170 \n\n\n\n\n\nPaul Dolick is a Canadian-American architectural designer whose professional experience includes work with leading design practices across Chicago\, Rotterdam\, and Toronto. \n\n\n\nAs an educator\, Paul teaches at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has taught at several institutions in Canada and the United States and is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). \n\n\n\nPaul holds a Bachelor of Architectural Science from Toronto Metropolitan University and a Master of Architecture with Distinction from the University of Manitoba. \n\n\n\nTogether with his wife\, Laura\, Paul leads Ettedgui-Dolick\, an architecture and design studio based in Oak Park\, Illinois. \n\n\n\nPresented as part of a collaboration with the ARCH 211: Design III Studio coordinated by Assistant Professor Lindsey Krug. SUMMARY:Community Wayfinding: Building Identity\, Connectivity\, and Economic Vitality
DESCRIPTION:Date & TimeWednesday\, October 14\, 2026 (12-1 p.m.) \n\n\n\n\n\nLocationVirtual \n\n\n\n\n\nAn Innovative Cities Lecture\n\n\n\nCommunity wayfinding systems do much more than direct people from one destination to another—they shape how residents and visitors experience a place. This lecture explores the planning\, design\, and implementation of community wayfinding programs\, beginning with downtown business districts and expanding to neighborhoods\, parks\, regional trail systems\, and community gateways.  \n\n\n\nLearn about the newly developed Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation Community Wayfinding Toolkit\, demonstrating how communities of all sizes can create coordinated wayfinding systems that enhance economic development\, visitor experiences\, and local pride. \n\n\n\nShowcasing examples from Wisconsin cities\, presenters will share how wayfinding supports tourism\, strengthens community identity\, and reinforces branding through coordinated logo and graphic design. Speakers will share the process of developing a successful wayfinding program\, including stakeholder committees\, public engagement\, funding strategies\, sign hierarchy\, walkable maps\, messaging\, GIS mapping\, and long-term maintenance responsibilities. The process and outcomes highlight the importance of designing wayfinding systems at multiple scales\, from pedestrian-oriented downtown signage to regional trail networks connected to county recreation systems. \n\n\n\nBiographies\n\n\n\nColleen Burke is the Economic Development Specialist for Sun Prairie. She began her career with the City of Sun Prairie in 2017 as the Downtown Business Improvement District and Tourism Manager and moved into the Economic Development Specialist role in 2024. She leads the department’s marketing\, small business support\, placemaking\, tourism initiatives\, and supports BRE efforts. Colleen is committed to promoting all of the amazing qualities Sun Prairie has to offer to the community\, visitors\, and businesses. \n\n\n\nPrior to her time with the City of Sun Prairie\, Colleen spent much of her career at Oscar Mayer/Kraft Heinz as a Marketing Activation Manager developing base product initiatives and new product launches\, contests\, sweepstakes\, and promotions\, and traditional couponing activities supporting Oscar Mayer Cold Cuts\, Hot Dogs\, Bacon\, Lunchables\, and Claussen businesses; and as a Special Events Manager at Madison Children’s Museum supporting the organization’s fundraising and development efforts. \n\n\n\nDavid Salmon is the Transportation Coordinator for the City of Sun Prairie. In his role\, David is the Traffic Safety Lead\, Bike Ped Coordinator\, Public Transit Coordinator\, and serves in a principal transportation planning role. David serves as the Association of Bicycle and Pedestrian Professionals – Wisconsin Chapter Leader\, the American Planning Association – Wisconsin Chapter Transportation Planning Division Co-Liason\, and serves on the Board of Directors for 1k Friends of Wisconsin. \n\n\n\nCameryn Ehlers-Kwaterski attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and majored in Political Science & International Studies. Following graduation\, she spent three years teaching Middle School Math through the Teach for America program in Marion\, South Carolina. In 2018\, her career pivoted into tourism\, and she became the first Executive Director of Visit Rome\, WI. \n\n\n\nSince 2021\, she has worked with Destination Sturgeon Bay and has since been the Executive Director. Destination Sturgeon Bay assists visitors\, promotes the area\, supports 250+ local businesses\, and fosters the community’s growth. SUMMARY:Building Community Wealth with Community Land Trusts
DESCRIPTION:Date & TimeWednesday\, November 18\, 2026 (12-1 p.m.) \n\n \n\nLocationVirtual \n\n\n \nAn Innovative Cities Lecture\n \nCommunity land trusts (CLTs) are emerging as one of the most effective tools for creating permanently affordable homeownership while building long-term community wealth. This session provides an overview of the community land trust model\, including how nonprofit organizations\, municipalities\, financial institutions\, and for-profit developers can partner to expand affordable housing opportunities.  \n \nSpeakers will describe the legal framework\, stewardship responsibilities\, legislative considerations\, and financing strategies that support CLTs at neighborhood\, municipal\, and regional scales. Case studies from Milwaukee and Madison will demonstrate how community land trusts create predictable housing costs\, preserve affordability for future generations\, and strengthen neighborhoods through shared equity and long-term stewardship. The presentation will include lessons learned and highlight innovative homeownership initiatives\, including the Homebuyer Choice Pilot Program\, and discuss how partnerships and policy can increase access to affordable housing while creating lasting community assets. \n \nBiographies\n \nAaron Foley is a Shareholder with the law firm of von Briesen & Roper\, s.c. He focuses his legal practice on estate planning\, probate and trust administration\, real estate and advising nonprofit organizations. Specifically\, he primarily represents individuals and families through the development of a comprehensive estate plan including creating trusts\, preparing powers of attorney and drafting corporate documents and deeds to transfer real estate to descendants. Aaron serves as a board member for Groundwork Milwaukee and is a member of the Milwaukee Community Land Trust stewardship committee. Aaron and his wife Megan are raising three children and enjoy gardening\, camping and being outside! \n \nOlivia R. Williams earned her PhD in Geography from Florida State University in 2017\, focusing on community land trusts (CLTs). Since 2014\, she has researched\, written\, and published extensively on community land trusts\, with work appearing in Urban Geography\, Antipode\, Journal of Urban Affairs\, and Housing Studies. She served as Executive Director of Madison Area Community Land Trust from 2020 to 2025\, founded the Wisconsin CLT Network in 2021\, and is now an Associate at Burlington Associates\, providing technical assistance to CLTs in the US. \n \nLamont Davis is the Executive Director of Milwaukee Community Land Trust (MCLT)\, a nonprofit organization that creates permanently affordable homeownership opportunities to strengthen neighborhoods and build community wealth. MCLT partners with neighborhood-based organizations\, nonprofit and for-profit developers\, municipalities\, and community stakeholders to acquire\, rehabilitate\, and steward homes for income-qualified buyers. Using the Community Land Trust model\, MCLT ensures homes remain affordable for future generations while allowing homeowners to build equity.
