Barbara Simon

Accessibility Resource Center

Barb has been working at the UWM Accessibility Resource Center for the past 18 years. She is currently serving as Interim Director. Prior to her current appointment, she worked as counselor for students with disabilities.  Her areas of specialty include students with learning disabilities, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism spectrum disorders. Barb most enjoys working one on one with students and appreciates the opportunity to participate in their academic and personal development. Recently, she has been engaged in establishing and facilitating a social group for students on the Autism Spectrum.

Barb earned her Bachelor's Degree at the University of Wisconsin Steven's Point, and her Master's Degree in Educational Psychology and Counseling from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. She began her career at Central Wisconsin Center for the Developmentally Disabled working with children with severe developmental disabilities  before being promoted to a supervisor position at Southern Wisconsin Center, where she supervised staff and 28 residents dually diagnosed with cognitive disabilities and severe psychiatric disabilities. Barb also worked for five years as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the State of Wisconsin Division of Vocational Rehabilitation prior to taking a nine year hiatus to raise her three children. Her background also includes working with individuals with developmental disabilities at Wisconsin Badger Camp, Camp Pow Wow, and Waukesha County.
