It builds rapport, communicates respect, and shows you value them as individuals.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Normalize Help-Seeking Behaviors<\/strong>&nbsp;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Explain what office hours are and how to participate. Emphasize that office hours are for <em>everyone<\/em> and not just for struggling students. Regularly invite students to visit during office hours or after class and consider offering flexible meeting times.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Explicitly Teach \u201cCollege Knowledge\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Many first-year students may not understand implicit academic norms. Clarify expectations around syllabus use, time management, participation, and email etiquette.
