SUMMARY:AI in Higher Ed: A Dialogue Across Perspectives
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\n\n\nAI is rapidly transforming higher education—but how we understand and respond to these changes varies widely. As artificial intelligence becomes more present in our classrooms\, offices\, and daily work\, many of us are navigating uncertainty\, curiosity\, and concern. Some feel excited by the possibilities\, while others feel unprepared or left out of the conversations shaping its future on our campus. \n\n\n\nThis session offers a space to come together and talk about it. Join colleagues from across UWM for a dialogue-focused event where we’ll explore our diverse experiences with AI\, share perspectives\, and build skills for engaging in thoughtful\, inclusive conversations about the technology. You’ll observe a structured dialogue among UWM colleagues representing different viewpoints\, then participate in guided table discussions to reflect on how AI is showing up in your work—and what it means for your role moving forward. \n\n\n\nThis session is designed for faculty\, instructors\, students\, grad students\, and staff. All perspectives welcome—no AI experience or expertise required. \n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\nStudent Union Ballroom2200 East Kenwood Blvd.\, Rm 351Milwaukee\, WI 53211 \n\n\n\nFacilitated by\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration Form\n\n\n\n\n\nCo-sponsored by\n\n\n\n\nCenter for Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CETL)\n\n\n\nDivision of Community Empowerment & Institutional Inclusivity (CEII)\n\n\n\nUniversity Information Technology Services (UITS).

SUMMARY:Inclusive Teaching Series: Session 3 (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\n\n\nCo-sponsored by CETL and the Division of Community Empowerment and Institutional Inclusivity (CEII)\, this three-part workshop series is a professional development opportunity aimed at preparing instructors to effectively teach UWM’s changing student body. Instructors who complete the workshop series will further their understanding of how to apply inclusive teaching practices in their course design and classroom management. \n\n\n\n\nLearn More about the Series\n\n\n\n\nExpand All\nSession 1: Teaching and Learning through the lens of Social Identities\nThis session offers a brief introduction to inclusive teaching goals and underlying values\, emphasizing how this teaching approach benefits all students. The session also focuses on social identities and how identity is relevant to teaching and learning for both instructors and students. \n\n\n\n\nSession 2: Building Inclusive Classroom Communities\nThis session addresses two components of how instructors can foster inclusive classroom communities. First\, building on the previous session’s focus on identities\, we consider how each student’s sense of belonging (or not) in the classroom can impact their engagement and learning. Second\, we consider the significance of conflict in the classroom and discuss proactive and responsive ways of engaging conflict constructively. \n\n\n\n\nSession 3: Inclusive Course and Assignment Design\nThis session focuses on practical ways of implementing inclusive and universal design for learning—which can range from course planning and syllabus creation\, to designing specific assignments or classroom learning activities. How do we provide students with\, on the one hand\, the structure and transparency they need to meet expectations\, and on the other hand\, enough flexibility to support their own agency and growth in learning? \n\n\n\n\n\nFacilitator\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Location\n\n\n\nThis event will be hosted Virtually on Zoom. Please register to receive the link. \n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration Form

SUMMARY:Inclusive Teaching Series: Session 2 (In-person)
\n\n\n\n\n\nFacilitator\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Location\n\n\n\nEngelmann Hall (ENG) B732033 E. SUMMARY:Inclusive Teaching Towards Justice (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:This three-part workshop series is a professional development opportunity aimed at preparing instructors to effectively teach UWM’s diverse student body. Inclusive Teaching Toward Justice focuses on how inclusive teaching can contribute to UWM’s goal of becoming a more radically welcoming and equitable campus. Instructors who complete the workshop series will further their understanding of how to apply inclusive teaching practices in their course planning and design\, classroom facilitation\, and assessment of student learning. \n– – –\nSession 1: Teaching and Learning through the Lens of Social Identities\nThis session offers a brief introduction to inclusive teaching goals and underlying values\, emphasizing how this teaching approach benefits all students and especially those from groups historically underrepresented in higher education. Participants will leave able to: \n\nSuccinctly explain key components and principles of inclusive teaching\nDefine “social identity” and name examples\nDescribe and implement in a course at least one concrete way of valuing students’ identities\n\nSession 2: Building Inclusive Classroom Communities\nThis session addresses why an inclusive classroom community (or its absence) matters to student learning. We will explore ways to foster students’ sense of belonging and to engage conflict constructively in the classroom. Participants will leave able to: \n\nName factors that contribute to belonging and a welcoming climate—and factors that impede this\nPractice at least one concrete way of building class community\nDescribe considerations and strategies an instructor might use to handle conflict moments in the classroom\n\nSession 3: Inclusive Course and Assignment Design\nThis session will focus on practical ways of designing both courses and specific assignments through an inclusive teaching lens. How do we provide students with\, on the one hand\, the structure and transparency they need to meet expectations\, and on the other hand\, enough flexibility to support their own agency and growth in learning? \nParticipants will leave able to: \n\nName (several) features of an inclusive course syllabus\nExplain the three key elements of transparent assignment design\nDescribe an inclusive design practice they’d like to use (or strengthen) in upcoming course planning\n\n– – –\nNote that each session is offered in both an in-person and a virtual format. You may choose to register for the session(s) of interest to you\, in the format you prefer. Participants who attend all three sessions (in either format) and complete the post-session reflections are eligible to earn a digital badge of completion. \nThis event is partially funded via Academic Staff Group Professional Development awards.

SUMMARY:Inclusive Teaching Towards Justice (In-Person)
