SUMMARY:Wise Feedback and Student Support | New TA Training Session
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\n\n\nFeedback is more than a grade. It is one of the most powerful tools for student growth. Wise feedback pairs high standards with genuine confidence that a student can meet them\, helping students see that criticism reflects investment rather than doubt. In this session\, you’ll explore how to provide feedback that students trust and act on. Topics will include: \n\n\n\n\nUnderstanding the principles of wise feedback and why it improves student motivation and performance\,\n\n\n\nFraming comments so students understand the purpose and intent behind critical feedback\,\n\n\n\nRevising existing feedback to make it more actionable\, supportive\, and effective.\n\n\n\n\nIn addition\, Kristyn Smith from the Student Success Center will explain the academic progress report process and the important role TAs play in it. Finally\, Kristin Woodward from the UWM Libraries will share how library services\, spaces\, and resources can support both TAs and students in research\, writing\, and course projects. \n\n\n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\nEngelmann Hall\, RM 1052033 E Hartford Ave\,Milwaukee\, WI 53211

SUMMARY:Active Teaching Lab - Learning with Vevox
DESCRIPTION:Participation Without Raising a Hand: Active Learning with Vevox\n\n\n\nJoseph O’Halloran\n\n\n\nHow can we boost engagement and encourage more students to contribute\, especially in a large class? \n\n\n\nIn our October Active Teaching Lab\, Joseph O’Halloran will share how he uses Vevox in his 60-plus-student physics course. Through live polls\, in-class graded quizzes\, and anonymous questions\, Vevox gives students multiple ways to participate\, test their understanding\, and ask for clarification. Joe found that these options led to greater participation\, including more questions from students who might not otherwise raise their hands. \n\n\n\nAlong the way\, we’ll consider how active learning can support AI-aware teaching. By asking students to practice\, apply\, and demonstrate their understanding during class\, instructors can keep students engaged in the work of learning while reducing opportunities to offload that thinking to AI. \n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\nThis session will be held in-person and virtually via Zoom. Registration is not required but helps us prepare. \n\n\n\nJoin via this Link! \n\n\n\nEngelmann Hall\, RM B732033 E Hartford Ave\,Milwaukee\, WI 53211 \n\n\n\n\n\nFacilitators\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration Form\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n \n University Email(Required)\n \n Please provide instructions if you require accommodations for this eventUniversity Appointment?\n \n \n Tenured / Tenured-track Faculty\n \n \n \n Non-tenured Faculty\n \n \n \n Staff\n \n \n \n Teaching Assistant\n \n \n \n Student\n \n \n \n Other\n If you selected Other\, please explain.University Department or Business Unit? How did you hear about this event? SUMMARY:AI Club
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\n\n\nBring a question. Share what you’re trying. Learn across roles. \n\n\n\nAI questions rarely stay within one department. A new AI tool can raise questions about teaching and learning\, information security\, data governance\, accessibility\, student support\, and university operations — all at the same time. No single role sees the whole picture because expertise is scattered across campus. Bringing varied perspectives and expertise together is why we started AI Club. \n\n\n\nAI Club is a monthly\, informal community of practice where colleagues bring real questions\, experiments\, and work in progress involving AI. A typical session includes one or two brief\, informal shares followed by conversation\, collaborative problem-solving\, and an exchange of practical ideas and resources. \n\n\n\nMeetings are conversations\, not lectures. You do not need prior AI expertise\, a presentation\, or a polished success story. Come to share something you are trying\, ask for help\, offer a perspective from your role\, or simply listen. Instructors\, IT and security staff\, and administrators — all roles and experience levels are welcome. \n\n\n\n\nLearn More About AI Club\n\n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\nThis session will be held in Engelmann Hall (ENG)\, Room B73\, and online via Zoom\, please register to receive an email with the link. \n\n\n\nFacilitators\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration Form\n\n\n\n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n \n University Email(Required)\n \n Please provide instructions if you require accommodations for this eventUniversity Appointment?\n \n \n Tenured / Tenured-track Faculty\n \n \n \n Non-tenured Faculty\n \n \n \n Staff\n \n \n \n Teaching Assistant\n \n \n \n Student\n \n \n \n Other\n If you selected Other\, please explain.University Department or Business Unit? How did you hear about this event?
