SUMMARY:Looking to Fall: Embedding HIPs Real-world Application into your Course
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\n\n\nReal-world Application is one of the High Impact Eight Quality Elements to leverage student learning and success. This session provides an overview and UWM examples of embedding real-world application in several course locations. Participants will have options to use the HIPs Assignment Builder\, HIPs Group Assignment Guide\, HIPs Low Stakes Guide\, and other tools to efficiently jump start embedding HIPs real-world application into your course. \n\n\n\nPlease bring an assignment or an activity that you are considering for the Fall or want to modify from the Spring semester. If you have real-world HIPs already embedded\, bring your examples! \n\n\n\n\nAccess KnowledgeBase Article on HIPs\n\n\n\n\nFacilitator\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Location\n\n\n\nTeams Only \n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration Form

SUMMARY:TILTing for Fall: Aligning Course Outcomes to Assignments
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\n\n\nJoin us for a 90-minute workshop to transform assignments for the Fall semester. This session introduces the Transparency in Learning and Teaching (TILT) framework as a transformative tool to redesign assignments that not only clarify learning expectations but also align with course and program learning outcomes.  \n\n\n\nThroughout the workshop\, participants will:  \n\n\n\nWalk Away with Practical Tools: Receive templates\, examples\, and resources that can be immediately implemented in your courses to drive student success.  \n\n\n\nExplore TILT Principles: Gain an understanding of how clear learning goals\, transparent criteria\, and supportive scaffolding can enhance student performance.  \n\n\n\nAlign Assessments with Learning Outcomes: Learn strategies to map assignment components directly to course or program objectives\, ensuring that every assignment promotes measurable learning outcomes.  \n\n\n\nRevise Assignments: Bring an assignment with you to collaborate in small groups to re-imagine current assessments using TILT guidelines\, share feedback\, and refine approaches.  \n\n\n\nThis interactive workshop offers a blend of brief presentations\, collaborative activities\, and reflective discussions\, empowering you to create assessments that are transparent\, student-centered\, and aligned with your learning outcomes. Whether you’re looking to revamp a single assignment or overhaul your assessment strategy\, this session provides insights and tools necessary for transparent change in your Fall courses.  \n\n\n\nFacilitator\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Location\n\n\n\nEngelmann Hall (ENG) B732033 E. SUMMARY:Active Teaching Lab - AI in First-Year Courses
DESCRIPTION:Building Student Research Skills Through AI Analysis\n\n\n\nMay 7  | Gillian Rodger\n\n\n\nWhat happens when we treat AI-generated content as a starting point for teaching research skills? Join us as music professor Gillian Rodger shares how she transformed potential challenges with AI into opportunities for developing critical information literacy. Through a carefully designed unit that combines AI experimentation with library research skills\, Rodger demonstrates how analyzing AI’s strengths and limitations can enhance students’ understanding of academic research. This workshop will explore how intentional engagement with AI tools can help students develop stronger research skills\, better source evaluation abilities\, and a deeper appreciation for authentic academic work. \n\n\n\nThis session will be held both in-person and online via Zoom. Registration is not required. However\, if you plan to attend in-person please register below – so we know how many much food to order \n\n\n\nCan’t make it to campus?
