Dear Colleagues,

I share with you sad news of the passing of two members of our UWM community.

Carolyn V. Johnson

The Office of the Registrar shared the sad news that Carolyn Johnson, a long-time and beloved former member of the Registrar’s Office staff, passed away on March 26, 2020.

Carolyn worked at UWM for 37 years until her retirement in 2018.  Although her last official title was the rather bland “Senior Records Specialist,” the many UWM faculty and staff who worked with her over the years knew her as THE go-to person who could be relied upon to investigate and fix almost any sort of records/grades/transcript issue, no matter how complicated or esoteric. Just as important, colleagues described Carolyn as both mother-hen and mentor to several generations of students, including hundreds of “her” student employees and the many others who sought and received her assistance.  Hers was a big heart and generous spirit.

While her UWM colleagues were sad to say farewell to Carolyn when she began her well-deserved retirement, this goodbye is much, much harder. For additional details, please see Carolyn’s obituary online. Our condolences to Carolyn’s family and to the many others whose lives she touched.

Susan Peterson

Dean Alan Shoho in the School of Education shared the sad news that Susan Peterson, a former Advisor in the School of Education, passed away on March 17, 2020.

Susan began her career at UW-Milwaukee as a university staff (classified staff) member, and most recently, she was an Advisor in the School of Education for 15 years. She retired from UWM in 2006.

Susan was described by her SOE colleagues as truly a student person, very caring and very knowledgeable on the many certification programs the School offered. Because of her many years at UWM, and SOE, she brought a wealth of knowledge on policies and procedures that benefited students as well as faculty and staff. She was dedicated and committed to the School of Education and to its students, giving them the best advice possible so they could graduate in a timely fashion.

For additional details, please see Susan’s obituary online.  Our condolences to Susan’s family and to the many others whose lives she touched.

Take care,

Johannes
