August 22, 2019  |  News & Events, Sad News, Timely Announcements

Colleagues,

I share with you the sad news that Richard Western, a former associate professor in the School of Education at UW-Milwaukee, passed away on August 16, 2019.

After earning his undergraduate degrees and Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota, Dr. Western accepted a faculty position at UWM’s School of Education where he taught for 26 years. During his time at UWM, he taught undergraduate and graduate courses on curriculum development and the teaching of English. He also served as Department Chair in Curriculum and Instruction, and as an advisor for Master’s and Doctoral candidates. After his formal retirement, Dr. Western continued to teach classes at UWM and at Concordia University until 2007 when he and his wife moved to northern Wisconsin where he continued his studies and editing. He shared his many intellectual interests with a love for the outdoors.

Dr. Western’s obituary is online, and celebrations of his life will be held privately.  Our condolences to Richard’s family and to the many others whose lives he touched.

Take care,

Johannes
