Dear Colleagues,

I share with you sad news from English Department Chair Gregory Jay.

Dr. Mary Edge Blewett, former lecturer and English Department alumnus, passed away last week.  Dr. Blewett received her Ph.D. in English from UWM, and was the first recipient of the Department’s Tinsley Helton Dissertation Fellowship. She was with UWM from 1999 through 2006, ending as a Senior Lecturer. Widely regarded for her teaching, Dr. Blewett won the second-ever Educator of the Year Award at Cardinal Stritch University.

Dr. Blewett’s obituary is online.  Visitation will be on Monday, December 11, from 5:30 – 7 p.m. (vigil at 7 p.m.) at Hartson Funeral Home, 11111 W. Janesville Rd., in Hales Corners. Funeral Mass will be at St. Sebastian Parish, 5400 W. Washington Blvd., in Milwaukee, on Tuesday, December 12 at 11 a.m. (with visitation at church from 10-11 a.m.).

Our condolences to Mary’s family, including her husband Peter, a senior lecturer here at UWM, and to the many others whose lives she touched.

Take care,

Johannes
