January 21, 2021  |  News & Events, Sad News, Timely Announcements

Dear Colleagues,

I share with you sad news from the School of Continuing Education, that former UW-Milwaukee staff member Barbara T. “Barb” Spalda passed away on January 6, 2021.

Barb joined UW-Milwaukee in 1973 and spent her UWM career working in administration efforts in the Dean’s Office in all iterations of Continuing Education, beginning with the Division of Urban Outreach, through the merger with UW Extension and as it became the current School of Continuing Education. Most of her efforts were in coordinating evening and weekend credit classes at the campus level, creating a catalog of courses available across campus, and working with special students to help them through the system. A colleague shared that Barb was a problem solver, always willing to go the extra mile to get things done. Barb retired from UWM in 2001.

Barb was also very active in various social justice and service ministries, and she enjoyed many other interests. For additional information, please see Barb’s obituary online. Our condolences to Barb’s family and to the many others whose lives she touched.

Take care,

Johannes
