About Faculty Affairs
Faculty Affairs supports UWM’s mission as an urban, access and research university by helping faculty and academic staff succeed. The office provides leadership on faculty and academic staff personnel matters, promotion and tenure, professional development, leadership training, compliance reporting, workload policy, grievances and conduct investigations, and other issues related to academic personnel and their concerns.

The Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs works closely with the Provost and campus partners to support academic leaders. faculty, academic staff through professional development, leadership training, student success, workload equity efforts, and inclusive hiring and retention practices. The role also includes oversight of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) and Accommodations Resource Center (ARC).

Biography
Dr. Canan Bilen-Green serves as the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. She has more than 15 years of experience in academic leadership. Before joining UWM, she held multiple vice provost roles at a public land-grant university, where she oversaw areas such as faculty advancement, Title IX and ADA compliance, disability accommodations, international programs, and faculty immigration.

At UWM and in her previous roles, Dr. Bilen-Green has developed orientation programs, promotion and tenure workshops, mentoring initiatives, and leadership training. She has worked on institutional policies related to tenure extensions, disability accommodations, hiring, and access to leadership opportunities.

Dr. Bilen-Green is a tenured professor of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. She has taught over 15 courses to more than 2,000 students, advised over 1,000 undergraduates, and mentored graduate students in both engineering and interdisciplinary programs. She has served as lead or co-lead on more than 30 externally funded projects totaling nearly $12 million, including over $6 million as principal investigator. Her work has involved collaborations with industry, nonprofit organizations, and academic institutions.

She has led or co-led several National Science Foundation–funded projects, including ADVANCE FORWARD, which focused on faculty advancement. The Advocates and Allies program, which she helped develop, has been implemented at more than 50 universities. She has also received funding from the USDA to support Tribal students and from the U.S. Department of Education to expand postsecondary opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities. Dr. Bilen-Green received the WEPAN University Change Agent Award for her contributions to access and inclusion in higher education.
