November 8, 2021  |  News & Events, Provost's Updates, Timely Announcements

Good morning, colleagues. Here is this week’s update from Academic Affairs.

Kudos

Demetrius Williams (French, Italian, and Comparative Literature) received an $18,000 Teacher-Scholar Grant from Calvin University to supplement his year-long sabbatical leave as he works toward completing a monograph entitled, “The Cross of Christ in African American Christian Religious Experience: Piety, Politics, and Protest.” (Lexington Books, 2022). Congratulations, Demetrius!

Bob Greenstreet (Dean Emeritus, School of Architecture and Urban Planning) and his wife, Karen, have penned, “The Survival Guide for Academic Leaders,” which is scheduled for release on March 31, 2022. Well done, Bob!

As a partner in the Moon Shot for Equity, UWM was honored with the 2021 CONNECTEDness Award from EAB. We’ve been recognized for our efforts to help more students persist, graduate, and thrive. Kudos!

Andrew Whetten’s (Mathematical Sciences) work on field-subfield spatial cross-validation of random forests was published in the International Journal of Geographic and Environmental Research. His proposed model was used to validate and further explore a univariately derived spatiotemporal cluster analysis of remotely sensed leaf area index in the Columbia River Basin from 1996-2017, which came from his earlier work on detecting multidecadal changes in regional plan phenology. Congratulations, Andrew!

Just a reminder: If you’d like to share a kudos item, please submit it via the Monday Update submission form.
