Dean finalists: Lubar School of Business

I am pleased to announce four finalists for the position of Dean of the Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business:

The candidates will visit campus beginning next week. Stahl Center Statement

Following last week’s tragic event I want to share with you The Sam & Helen Stahl Center for Jewish Studies statement on the tragedy in Pittsburgh.

Kudos

Ryan Shorey, Psychology, will be receiving two awards at the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT) meeting this month: The President’s New Research Award and the Early Career Award from the Addictive Behaviors special interest group. Congratulations on your achievements, Ryan!

Milwaukee Athletics

Seven members of the Milwaukee women’s soccer team were honored with post-season awards last week. Highlights include Kelli Swenson who garnered her second Defensive Player of the Year award, Haley Johnson won Freshman of the Year, and Troy Fabiano was named the Horizon League Coach of the Year for the fourth year in a row!  On Saturday night, the Milwaukee women’s soccer team claimed a 1-0 victory over Cleveland State in the Horizon League Tournament Championship!

Congratulations to the Milwaukee women’s cross-country team, crowned Horizon League Champions for the first time since 1993 after a complete team effort on a perfect day for running. Junior Mikayla Fox led the charge, finishing as conference runner-up.

Men’s and women’s basketball single-game and group tickets for the 2018-19 Milwaukee basketball season are now on sale. Ticket prices start at $13 for men’s and $7 for women’s games. Single-game tickets can be purchased either at Ticketmaster.com or MKEPanthers.com/tickets or at the Ticket Office on game day.

The Week

Monday

This morning, I have meetings with Val Klump and Brett Peters, followed by the Chancellor’s Executive Cabinet Deep Dive meeting. In the afternoon, there a campus budget planning meeting and I have my weekly meeting with my staff.

Tuesday

I have standing meetings with Tom Luljak, Peter Sands, and the Connected Systems Institute Core Team meets. I’ll attend the University Committee meeting and have my weekly meeting with the Chancellor.

Wednesday

I have a standing meeting with Brian Thompson and a meeting regarding student career services. I’m making remarks at the launch of the UWM Libraries’ Digital Humanities Lab Audio Studio. We (Academic Affairs, Finance and Administrative Affairs as well as the APBC – Academic Planning and Budget Committee) continue the roll-out of the new budget model. This week we start meetings with schools and colleges in finalizing their 2019/2020 budgets based on the new budget model.  On Wednesday we meet with the School of Education, School of Architecture and Urban Planning, and College of Letters and Science.

Thursday

More New Budget Model meetings. Today, we meet with College of Engineering and Applied Science, Lubar School of Business, and College of Health Sciences. I also meet with Alan Shoho and the Chancellor.

Friday

This morning, I meet with several of my direct reports. In the afternoon, I have a shared services meeting and administrative tasks.

A panel discussion entitled, “Innovative Approaches to Addressing Health Disparities,” will be held on Thursday, November 8 at 6 p.m. in the College of Nursing room G40.

Bubbler Talk

The UWM Libraries’ Digital Humanities Lab welcomes WUWM’s Mitch Teich, executive producer of Lake Effect, and digital producer Lauren Sigfussonto discuss the radio series, “Bubbler Talk,” on Monday, November 12 at 3 p.m.

Become a Corps Member!

Join the Center for Community-Based Learning, Leadership, and Research for an information session to learn about paid full-time positions with the Peace Corps and local AmeriCorps programs on Tuesday, November 13 at 6 p.m. in the Union Fireside Lounge. RSVP.

Fall Reception

The 2019 Asian Faculty and Staff Association (AFSA) Fall Reception will take place on Wednesday, November 14 from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Regents Room, Chapman 211.

WWHEL Scholarship

UWM Wisconsin Women in Higher Education Leadership is accepting applications for scholarships to attend the 2019 Women Leaders Conference on March 1, 2019 in Milwaukee. Deadline to apply is November 30. Ten awardees will be announced in January. The scholarship is sponsored by a UWM Academic Staff Group Professional Development Award, so only Academic Staff are eligible.

Adventures in Research

Join us for a new series on UWM’s Facebook page for “Adventures in Research,” which offers a behind-the-scenes look at some of the most interesting places on campus. Today, November 5, we’re learning about medieval map monsters in this live event starting at 4 p.m.

GIS Day in Library
GIS Day 2018 at UWM features free hands-on workshops, speakers and vendors. GIS Day will take place on Wednesday, November 14 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the American Geographical Society Library. GIS is geospatial inquiry, asking and answering a question through the analysis and communication of data that is linked to a geographic location and is widely used in the public and private sector, and in a range of disciplines.

Art History and the Mathis Art Gallery

The next Art Exposé will take place on Tuesday, November 13 at 1 p.m. in the Mathis Art Gallery, Mitchell 170. Join us for an object presentation given by Mathis Art Gallery Graduate Intern Heather Sheets!

The opening reception for the next two exhibitions in the Mathis Art Gallery will take place on Thursday, November 15th from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery, Mitchell 170. Join us as we open “Humor and Quiet Resistance: The Graphic Work of Wilhelm Höpfner” curated by Art History MA student Kelsey Soya and “Stanley William Hayter & The Death of Hektor” curated by Mathis Art Gallery staff.
