November 2, 2020  |  News & Events, Provost's Updates, Timely Announcements

Good morning, colleagues.  Here is this week’s update from Academic Affairs.

REMINDER

Tomorrow is Election Day. If you haven’t already voted, I urge you to cast your ballot!

Kudos

The “Advances in Nursing Science” Advisory Board reported that the article, “The Role of Nurses as Allies Against Racism and Discrimination: An Analysis of Key Resistance Movements of Our Time,” authored by College of Nursing doctoral students and faculty, is among the top ten ANS articles viewed on the journal website, as well as the top-cited item of 2020. Congratulations!

Emily Siebers (Biomedical Sciences alum), Elizabeth Liedhegner (Biomedical Sciences), and Dean Nardelli (Biomedical Sciences) had their paper, “Regulatory T Cells Contribute to Resistance against Lyme Arthritis,” selected by the editors of Infection and Immunity as the “Article of Significant Interest in This Issue” for its November 2020 issue. Well done, Emily, Elizabeth, and Dean.

Bettina Arnold (Anthropology) was interviewed for a feature film on the Iron Age salt mining site of Hallstatt that recently aired on Austrian television. Congratulations, Bettina!

Kudos to the faculty and staff members whose proposals were selected for 10 grants through the Towards an Antiracist Campus – Action Grant program. Designed with the intent of “holding a mirror to ourselves,” these proposals embody ideas, activities, and programs that directly strive to dismantle racism at UWM.

Carolyn Eichner (History and Women’s and Gender Studies) has been elected to a second five-year term on the Board of the International Federation for Research in Women’s & Gender History/Fédération Internationale pour la Recherche en Histoire des Femmes et Genre. Well done, Carolyn!

Kimberly Blaeser (English and American Indian Studies) has a new bilingual collection of poetry, “Résister en dansant/Ikwe-niimi: Dancing Resistance,” published by Éditions des Lisières, France, translation by Béatrice Machet. Congratulations, Kim!
