Colleagues,

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Purush Papatla who has accepted the offer as the Co-Director of the Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute (NMDSI) and also as the Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute Professor. In addition to teaching courses on Data Science and continuing his research in Data Science, Purush will be responsible for NMDSI’s on-going operations including facilitating participation by UWM faculty with expertise in related disciplines. He will be establishing and working with a faculty advisory board that will assist in providing strategic direction, oversight of operations, the establishment of research priorities, and curricular and course proposal review. While accepting the position, Purush conveyed to me that he is looking forward to helping expand UWM’s curricular and research strengths in data science and helping the NMDSI have a significant positive impact on our community.
