Good morning, colleagues. I hope you enjoyed the three-day holiday weekend. Here is this week’s update from Academic Affairs.
UWM’s Assistive Technology program was awarded a five-year initial accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) on May 18. Congratulations to all, especially Michelle Silverman and Jay Kapellusch who were instrumental in obtaining this endorsement.
The Milwaukee men’s basketball team was honored as part of the NCAA APR Public Recognition Awards for outstanding academic achievements based on the most recent multi-year NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR), released by the NCAA national office. Milwaukee is one of just 35 men’s basketball programs recognized and the only member of the Horizon League on the list. The team posted a perfect 1,000 four-year rate.
Update on College of Health Sciences Dean Search
The College of Health Sciences was not successful in the recruitment of a permanent dean. The search will stay open until the position is filled. Dr. Ray Fleming was appointed as Interim Dean after an internal search.
Many thanks to Dr. Ron Cisler for his service as Interim Dean. Ron will be leaving UWM after 25 years of exceptional service. I am sad to see him go, but very happy for him and wish him much success in his new role as Dean of the College of Health and Human Services at Western Michigan University.
I start the shortened week with the Deans’ Morning Meeting, followed by a Board of Regents planning meeting for the presentation of the BS in Public Health, and then the Chancellor’s Executive and Expanded Cabinet meeting. I have my monthly meeting with Student Association leadership, and my bi-weekly meeting with Mark Harris. This week, we also start our meetings with the different schools and colleges on their budget planning for the year. This afternoon, we meet with the School of Education and Helen Bader School of Social Welfare.
In the morning, I have a standing meeting with Alberto Maldonado, and an Integrated Support Services Sponsor meeting. In the afternoon, I have my monthly meeting with Academic Staff Committee Chair Sue Cashin, a meeting with Ron Perez to discuss logistics of the new BS in Public Health, and my weekly meeting with the Chancellor.
I have an academic planning meeting with Dave Clark, Mark Harris, and Daad Saffarini, and my standing meeting with Katie Miota. Then, I’ll travel to Madison with the Chancellor and Tom Luljak for a Dialogue on the Future of Higher Education.
I start the day with a meeting with Paul Auer and Janis Eells regarding the CHS Dean Search. I then have a Non-Credit Coding Certificate Partnership meeting, and my standing meeting with Interim Dean of the College of General Studies Stephen Schmid. Later, I have my monthly meeting with Bob Greenstreet, a budget meeting with College of Engineering and Applied Science, and an Administrative Unit budget meeting with Robin Van Harpen and her team.
