May 29, 2018  |  News & Events, Provost's Updates

Good morning, colleagues. I hope you enjoyed the three-day holiday weekend. Here is this week’s update from Academic Affairs.

Kudos

Michael Zimmer’s (Information Studies) website, www.michaelzimmer.org was featured in EdTech’s list of 30 Must-Read Higher Education IT Blogs. Well done, Michael!

UWM’s Assistive Technology program was awarded a five-year initial accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) on May 18. Congratulations to all, especially Michelle Silverman and Jay Kapellusch who were instrumental in obtaining this endorsement.

Milwaukee Athletics

The Milwaukee men’s basketball team was honored as part of the NCAA APR Public Recognition Awards for outstanding academic achievements based on the most recent multi-year NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR), released by the NCAA national office. Milwaukee is one of just 35 men’s basketball programs recognized and the only member of the Horizon League on the list. The team posted a perfect 1,000 four-year rate.

Update on College of Health Sciences Dean Search

The College of Health Sciences was not successful in the recruitment of a permanent dean.  The search will stay open until the position is filled.  Dr. Ray Fleming was appointed as Interim Dean after an internal search.

Many thanks to Dr. Ron Cisler for his service as Interim Dean. Ron will be leaving UWM after 25 years of exceptional service. I am sad to see him go, but very happy for him and wish him much success in his new role as Dean of the College of Health and Human Services at Western Michigan University.
