Good afternoon, colleagues. Here is this week’s brief update from Academic Affairs.

Director of the Accessibility Resource Center

Three finalists for the position of Director of the Accessibility Resource Center will be on campus this week and next. Candidates’ CVs and visit dates are posted online.

Milwaukee Athletics

Tickets for the Horizon League Basketball Championships in Indianapolis are now available for purchase at HorizonLeague.com, the Indiana Farmers Coliseum box office, or by calling the box office at 317-972-7602.

The Week

Monday

I start the day with my weekly meeting with Robin Van Harpen and the Chancellor’s Executive and Expanded Cabinet meeting. Later, I have my weekly staff meeting.

Tuesday

In the morning, the UWM Crisis Management Team will hold a planning meeting and I have my monthly meeting with Alan Shoho. In the afternoon, I have meetings with Tom Lipinski, Simon Bronner and Stephen Schmid, and my monthly meeting with Scott Emmons.

Wednesday

The day starts with a BM Metrics meeting with campus leadership. Later, I’m having a picnic with my staff and meetings with several direct reports. I close the day making welcome remarks at the annual meeting of the International Association for Discourse Analysis.

Thursday

In the morning, I  monthly meeting with Stan Stojkovic, and a monthly Campus Space Planning meeting. In the afternoon, I have my monthly meeting with Trudy Turner, a Connected Systems Institute Steering Committee meeting, and my weekly meeting with the Chancellor.

Friday

I start the day providing remarks at the UWM Graduate Diversity and Inclusion McNair Visit Day, followed by an Integrated Support Services Executive Sponsors meeting. Later, I’ll attend the Undergraduate Research Picnic and I have a meeting on student success.

2020 Alumni Awards

Nominations are being accepted for the annual UWM Alumni Awards, recognizing alumni and university partners for their commitment to UWM, volunteerism, and professional achievements. Additional information and nomination forms. The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, August 16. Awards will be presented at the 2020 Alumni Awards Evening on Friday, April 3, 2020 at the Pfister Hotel.

Common Reading Experience

The WUWM “I’m an American” series by Teran Powell has been selected as UWM’s 2019 Common Reading Experience text. “I’m an American” spotlights perspectives otherwise overshadowed in the national conversations surrounding civility and tolerance. Access the series and interviews on WUWM’s website. Faculty are encouraged to sign up to facilitate a CRE discussion during Panther Academic Welcome.

Netball New World Champions: The New Zealand Silver Ferns beat the Australia Diamonds in the finals to win the Women’s Netball World Cup – their first World Cup title in 16 years.
