2030 Feature of the Week
As part of the Aligning and Engaging Workforce Action Team, a new Organizational Development website has been launched: Organizational Development | Human Resources (uwm.edu). Please explore the new site and encourage your colleagues and team members to do the same.
Enrollment Management Feature of the Week
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is hosting Admitted Student Days March 4, March 31, April 15, and April 21 and encourages you to join in celebrating future Panthers! They are planning for 350-400 admitted students plus their guests each day.
Share your Panther Pride by wearing UWM apparel and engaging with guests you see around campus on these days. Guests will be sporting name tags and black tote bags. The more welcomed admitted students and families feel on these days, the more excited they will be to choose UWM and attend Summer orientation. Reach out to ouaevents@uwm.edu with any questions.
In the News
Chris Yogerst (Arts and Humanities) weighs in on how “A new history of the Oscars reveals the power behind the glamour,” in the Washington Post’s Book World.
Milwaukee Athletics
The Milwaukee Athletic Department announced the creation of a new monthly podcast to start off 2023. The second monthly episode of the “Pounce-Cast” – the newest feature that will provide more content and help tell the stories behind Milwaukee Panther Athletics – is now available and features Senior Associate Director of Athletics Kathy Litzau.
The Week in Retrospect
On Monday, I provided updates to the Academic Staff Committee, had updates from the Ombuds Council leads, and had a meeting to discuss our weather-related cancelation processes (very timely!). On Tuesday, I provided updates to the University Committee on several topics. On Wednesday, there were multiple meetings focused on the emerging weather conditions along with a deans meeting, a check-in with Student Association leads, and a campus space planning meeting. I began Thursday with updates to the APBC and finished with a meeting with the 2030 leads. On Friday, I will be catching up on administrative tasks in Academic Affairs.
Announcements

  • Marketing Survey
UWM’s Marketing Study Group was formed in January at the request of Chancellor Mone to examine UWM’s current marketing structure to determine what is working well; where gaps exist in current resources and services; and where resources might be used more efficiently. The group would like input from faculty and staff in all units that engage in marketing and communications activities. This is an opportunity to have input on the future of marketing at UWM. Please see the version of this Update in email for the link to complete the survey by March 3.
  • Sad News
William “Bill” Horstman passed away on February 17 at the age of 79. He came to UWM in 1963 as a graduate student and never left! He earned his MA in Comparative Literature in 1975; served as the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs in the College of Letters and Science until his retirement in 2007; and in retirement, has been a speechwriter for Chancellors Lovell and Santiago. Bill had a great love for the outdoors and local sports teams, with a special focus on the Braves (as a child) and then the Brewers. After his career, he was able to concentrate on his other passions, including creative writing, stand-up comedy, and traveling. Bill will be missed by all those he touched throughout his life. The family will greet friends on Saturday, March 11 from 12 – 3 p.m. at Feerick Funeral Home in Shorewood. You can read Bill’s obituary here.
