Message from Provost Britz to UWM Faculty on September 6, 2019:

Good afternoon, colleagues. I am pleased to share that UW System President Ray Cross has announced a request for nominations for the 2019-20 Regent Scholars. The Regent Scholar Grant program provides one-time grants to individual faculty or to institutional programs that undertake undergraduate research projects having potential to foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and talent development. Programs may have an emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), as well as pursuits in academic disciplines, including arts, humanities, or professional studies.

These prestigious awards represent the highest level of UW System recognition for faculty innovation, entrepreneurship, and business engagement. Each awardee will be recognized by the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents at a regular meeting and will receive a $50,000 grant to support their innovative work.

The Regent Scholar program is open to all UW System institutions with a maximum of two nominations per institution. Three Regent Scholars will be recognized. Nominees will be considered for these awards based on entrepreneurial ideas and innovative projects accomplishing the following goals:

  1. Promoting stellar research experiences for undergraduate students, thus preparing a high-quality workforce;
  2. Stimulating research across all UW System campuses, ultimately driving regional economic development; and
  3. Recognizing superior undergraduate research in all majors and areas of academic discipline including, but not limited to, STEM and creative arts fields.

Applicants should refer to the Request for Proposals (RFP). Please submit application materials as a single PDF, with the subject line “Regents Scholars Grant proposal”, to Ana Gonzalez (anagamez@uwm.edu) in the Office of Research no later than close of business on September 27.

Take care,

Johannes
