John Dorosz

Assistant Director
Pathway Advising

About John

I grew up in the Milwaukee area and remember when there were electric streetcars, several drive-in movie theatres, party lines (not THAT kind of party!) on rotary dial wall phones, no computers or internet, and no freeway system! It was a quieter, kinder time.

I have been with UWM over 40 years. In my current role as assistant director of Pathway Advising at UW-Milwaukee, I help guide the program, act as a resource for staff and offer students support as they transition from high school to the university. We help undecided students discover their paths, and help students qualify for their majors.

In previous roles at UWM, I served as Interim Director of the Office of Central Advising, Assistant Director for Admissions and Advising in the Academic Opportunity Center, Senior Academic Advisor in the College of Engineering and Applied Science, and various other roles and capacities over the years.

Favorite Place on Campus

It’s a tie – between the rumored network of creepy “secret” tunnels under the Kenwood Campus that connects all buildings, and the staircase between the 2nd and 3rd floors of Merrill Hall, on the north side of the building, which is said to be haunted. On a dark night, if you stop about 2/3 of the way up between floors and face north, you’ll notice a window in a very odd place. If you un-focus your eyes and can manage to look out the window, you may see the outline of a face with a sad look…
