Priority Deadlines

To be assured of consideration by the USP Student Affairs Committee in time to begin the semester that you wish, applicants should apply no later than the priority deadline, listed below. If space permits we continue to review applications beyond the priority deadline, though funding decisions will have passed. The entire application is completed online at the link below:

Applying to the Master’s or Ph.D. Program

Master’s Degree Program in Urban Studies

To apply to the Master’s Degree Program, the applicant needs to complete the following through the online application system, Panthera:

  1. Complete the Graduate School’s Online Application that includes a reason statement for graduate study, transcript requests, and an application fee.
  2. Using the online application system, identify at least two recommenders to submit letters of recommendation on your behalf. Letters should be from current or former professors who can comment on an applicant’s previous academic performance.
  3. Complete the Fellowship and Financial Assistance Information Form.
  4. Submission of a writing sample, although not required for the Master’s degree application, may be included. Submit written work which demonstrates your ability to do original research and/or to critically analyze and evaluate the work of others.

Doctoral Degree Program in Urban Studies

To apply to the Doctoral Degree Program, the applicant needs to the complete the following through the online application system, Panthera:

  1. Complete the Graduate School’s Online Application that includes a reason statement for graduate study, transcript requests, and an application fee.
  2. Using the online application system, identify at least three recommenders to submit letters of recommendation on your behalf. At least two of the three letters should be from current or former professors who can comment on an applicant’s previous academic performance.
  3. Submit your Master’s paper or other written work online, which demonstrates your ability to do original research and/or to critically analyze and evaluate the work of others.
  4. Submit Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores to the UWM Graduate School. Scores must be within the last 5 years.
  5. Submit your Urban Studies Essay (Addendum) online.
