The Office of Equity/Diversity Services (EDS) receives complaints of sexual harassment and other forms of discrimination from faculty, staff and students. EDS will conduct prompt, thorough and impartial investigations of formal complaints. If informal resolution is an appropriate and mutually agreeable alternative, EDS will work individuals and departments to facilitate a resolution. An ombuds is an independent, informal, neutral and confidential resource who provides assistance to members of the University community in exploring options to resolve problems, complaints and conflicts at a preliminary and informal level. This assistance functions as an early opportunity to explore options outside of formal administrative channels, supplementing them, but not replacing them.
The Ombuds Office serves as a resource for those who seek informal guidance on policies, procedures and regulations affecting faculty and staff. Ombuds can refer individuals to persons able to resolve problems, interpret policies, or handle issues at the lowest possible level.
Employee Assistance Program
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) was established at UWM because family, marital, alcohol, drug, financial, stress, emotional, and other personal problems can affect the quality of an employee’s life at home and performance on the job. Employees and their families are encouraged to take full advantage of the services that this program has to offer if personal problems arise. Office of Student Life
Through its programs and services UW-Milwaukee’s Office of Student Life (OSL) provides a holistic approach to student development that includes social, intellectual, emotional, physical, and cultural growth. OSL models leadership, responsibility, service, and respect for diversity by providing a framework for purposeful and meaningful experiences that empower students to reach their full potential.
LGBT Resources Center
The mission of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center at UW-Milwaukee is to connect with various student populations and the community at large by:
- Embracing the diversity of the UWM student community
- Increasing the awareness, education, and presence of LGBT issues on the UWM campus,
- Providing a resource for students and community members wanting to learn about and advocate for LGBT issues,
- Providing a safe-space for all LGBT students and their allies at UWM to give and receive social and emotional support, and
- Fostering student leadership, and personal, academic, and professional growth through collaborations on and off campus.
The LGBT Resource Center is a student led and funded initiative to serve UW-Milwaukee students and the general University community.
Women’s Resources Center
The WRC enhances awareness and understanding at UWM of the diversity of women’s lives and experiences, and the role gender plays in everyone’s life. We promote and support the health and well-being of women juggling school with other responsibilities, and help students to address their problems, recognize their individual and collective power, and achieve their full educational, career and personal potential at UWM and beyond. And, we build partnerships and advocate for change to create a campus climate that enhances the quality of life for all members of the University community.
