Lyrical Sanctuary presents Kavon Cortez-Jones

April 12 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

7-7:45pm | Writing Workshop | Inclusive Excellence Center (Union 119)
8-10pm | Open Mic & Feature | Union Fireside Lounge

Lyrical Sanctuary is celebrating fifteen years! As one of the longest running open mic programs in the city, Lyrical Sanctuary brings students and community members together to share their passion for poetry, music, art, and creative self-expression.

About this month’s feature: Currently a Milwaukee Rep and First Stage Teaching Artist, Kavon Cortez Jones was born on September 26th, 1994, in a city he calls, Paris of the Midwest. He is a Milwaukee homegrown Renaissance poet, avid biker, actor, and storyteller who grew up in the Harambee-Riverwest and 53206 neighborhoods. Young Kavon was inspired to write poetry in 7th grade while attending Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. K-8 School, thanks to local mentors Kwabena Nixon and Muhibb Dyer. They came to his school when he was 13, and wowed a gymnasium full of teenagers with poetic storytelling.
