Meet the team!
Michaela Murry, who prefers to go by the name “Mikey”, works as the Sociocultural Programming Undergraduate Assistant. She began attending University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2014 as a freshman pursuing a degree in Community Engagement Education with an interest in Cultures and Communities. Outside of school, Mikey works in the community as a spoken word artist and as a creative writing teacher. Mikey intends to be a professor.
Aside from being a full-time student and part-time employee, you can find Mikey binge-watching episodes of “Black Mirror” and “Bob’s Burgers”.
Mikey likes a lot of things, such as vanilla chai, being barefoot, Christmastime, and discussing how to survive a zombie apocalypse.
Peter Burress is the Sociocultural Programming Graduate Assistant, focused specifically on the Sociocultural Student Advisory Council and Social Justice Leadership Development opportunities. Last year, Peter graduated from Carroll University with a degree in Psychology and Organizational Leadership. He is now a student in the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Urban Studies program. His research interests revolve around how institutions use technology to mobilize community activists.
Peter was born and raised in Door County, Wisconsin. When not in school, he enjoys traveling home to spend time with his family. If you can’t find Peter at UWM, out to dinner with friends, or in a nearby park hiking, he’s probably watching The West Wing or looking for new Harry Potter piano sheet music.
