“Girls Trip”

Best friends Ryan, Sasha, Lisa and Dina are in for the adventure of a lifetime when they travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival. Along the way, they rekindle their sisterhood and rediscover their wild side by doing enough dancing, drinking, brawling and romancing to make the Big Easy blush.

Thursday, February 8th
“Marshall”
6pm | Union Cinema

This film, starring Black Panther‘s Chadwick Boseman, follows the life of Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American Supreme Court Justice, as he battles through one of his career-defining cases. Traveling to conservative Connecticut to defend Joseph Spell, a black chauffer accused of sexual assault and attempted murder, Marshall soon teams up with Sam Friedman, a local Jewish lawyer who’s never handled a criminal case. Recounting this amazing story, Marshall is a must-see.

Thursday, February 28th
“Whose Streets?”
6pm | Union Cinema

This documentary, the first by director Sabaah Folayan, is an account of the Ferguson uprising as told by the people who lived it. The filmmakers look at how the killing of 18-year-old Michael Brown inspired a community to fight back and sparked a global movement. This film, one of few to hold a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, was nominated for several prizes, including the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival.
